Privacy policy

Sharecopypaste is a paste-sharing web app and a companion browser extension (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari) for capturing, annotating, and sharing screenshots and screen recordings. This policy explains what each part collects, what it never collects, and how to ask us to delete your data.

What the web app stores

Paste content, the time it was created, and when it expires. If you are signed in we link the paste to your user. If you are not, we link it to an anonymous session cookie so you can see your recent pastes from this browser. We set an HttpOnly session cookie for that, and an auth session cookie when you sign in. No tracking cookies, no third-party ad pixels.

What the extension collects

• Your email address, but only if you choose to sign in. It is used to authenticate you and to send transactional messages (sign-in links, account notifications) routed through Paradise Modern Mail. We do not sell or rent it.
• A sign-in token stored in the extension’s local storage on your device. It stays on your machine and is sent only to the Sharecopypaste API to identify you. Sign out from the extension popup to remove it.
• Captures you explicitly create — the screenshots and screen recordings you choose to capture — are uploaded to Sharecopypaste so we can give you a shareable link. They are stored under the same expiration and burn-after-read rules as any other paste.
• Capture preferences (for example: default expiration, burn-after-read on or off) stored locally in the extension so the popup remembers your choices.

What the extension does not collect

• No tracking. We do not load analytics scripts or ad pixels.
• No browsing history. We do not read the pages you visit. The extension only acts on a user gesture and only on the tab you choose to capture or record.
• No background reads of page content. Host permissions exist solely so capture can run on the page you are looking at when you click the toolbar.
• No personal communications, health, financial, or location data.
• No selling or transferring your data to third parties.

How we moderate

To keep the service safe and lawful, we may run automated checks on the text and media you submit. For text and images, we may send a copy to our moderation provider (currently OpenAI omni-moderation — see subprocessors) which returns category labels. We do not use your content to train models. The verdicts we keep are described in “What we retain” below. Critical-content signals (e.g. material sexualizing minors) trigger immediate deletion, an account ban, and an internal incident record we keep indefinitely so the same bytes cannot be re-uploaded.

When we delete

Pastes and captures are hard-deleted from the database when they expire or are burned. Burned records are removed within 24 hours. You can also delete your account at any time from Settings or download a JSON copy of your data first.

What we retain

• AI moderation verdicts and resolved queue items: 90 days.
• Appeals: 1 year.
• Critical-incident records and content hashes: indefinite, for legal and re-upload-prevention reasons.
• Suspected child sexual abuse material (CSAM): we are required by 18 U.S.C. § 2258A to report apparent CSAM to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) CyberTipline and to preserve the original file, associated metadata (uploader IP, user-agent, account email if any) and the CyberTipline submission for at least 90 days. Access to that preserved material is restricted to our designated reporter and law enforcement, and every access is logged.
• Account records: while the account is active, then deleted on request.

How to request deletion

Email privacy@sharecopypaste.com from the address you signed in with and tell us what you want removed: your account, specific pastes or captures, or all of the above. We will action the request and confirm by reply within 30 days. If you only want to clear local extension data, sign out from the extension popup or remove the extension — that wipes the sign-in token and capture preferences from your device.
